Advisory Council postpones Judge for Yourself engagements

Media statement

Monday, 23 March 2020

In line with recent health and government advice about the Novel Coronavirus - COVID-19, the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council will not be presenting Judge for Yourself sessions in person at schools and community hubs until it is safe to do so.

While disappointed that we cannot connect with the community face-to-face, the health and safety of our Council members, staff and Queenslanders is a serious priority during this time.

The Council remains available to support the community in its understanding of sentencing through the provision of resources including interactive Judge for Yourself videos, Sentencing Spotlights and the Queensland Sentencing Guide that provide insights into how the criminal justice system works and the complex task of sentencing offenders.

We will explore opportunities to again present Judge for Yourself sessions and other engagement activities in the future, but in the meantime will rely on the advice of relevant Federal and State government authorities to make informed and safe decisions about our activities.

We will provide updates on the Council’s activities via our electronic newsletter, Inform, on our website and social media pages.
