Overcoming Obstacles by Casey Coolwell

This artwork is titled ‘Overcoming Obstacles’ and was created for us by artist and graphic designer, Casey Coolwell.

Casey is a Quandamooka, Nunukul woman of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) with links to Eulo.

Casey has a creative background in graphic design and is one of the founders of CHABOO, alongside her partner Roy Fisher.

In Casey’s words,

“This art piece represents our people trying to understand the sentencing system, with the help of support services.

The ‘U’ shaped symbols depict the different governing bodies and its people.

The artwork behind the ‘U’ shapes represent our Indigenous and non-Indigenous people connecting and sharing knowledge of the systems.

The directioning and overlapping of the artwork represents the obstacles that our people go through.”
